Winterizing to prevent frozen pipes

Winterizing to prevent frozen pipes

Winter weather brings the opportunity of freezing pipes and plumbing. Water expands as it freezes.  No matter the strength of a container, expanding water can cause pipes to break. Pipes most likely to freeze are those that are exposed to severe cold like outdoor hose bibs, swimming pool supply lines, water sprinkler lines and water supply pipes in unheated interior areas like basements, crawl spaces, attics, garages or kitchen cabinets. You also need to be concerned about pipes that are against exterior walls that have little or no insulation as they are subject to freezing as well.
